This club is very fortunate in that we know quite a lot about our history. For this we can thank the enthusiasm and diligence of members past and present who have committed their time and energies to unearthing the information.
Notable among these is Kenneth Robson MA, who wrote and published a lovely booklet titled Amwell Magna Fishery 1831–1981. Robson was a local headteacher and historian who became Amwell Magna’s Chairman and who also served as Editor of the Flyfishers’ Journal, the house publication of the Flyfishers’ Club.
Honourable mention is also due to our current Archivist Feargal Sharkey, who works very hard to unearth interesting facts, scouring the globe in search of source material. He recently discovered a beautiful painted tile depicting the Fishery in the nineteenth century. Feargal can occasionally be found lurking in dark recesses of the New York Public Library in search of lost treasures.
